error 404

The dreaded internet message

An error 404 message happens when you try to view a webpage that is down or otherwise. 

Sometimes your browser will sit there for awhile while it tries to transfer data from the internet.  Once it finds the page is down you will get the error.

The error 404 message can happen for many reasons.  Sometimes it’s possible a webpage or website no longer exists. 

Many websites are released on the internet everyday and many also end their life.  Sometimes websites owners lose interest and just take down the website because they cannot afford it anymore.

                                  

                                

Another reason you could experience a error 404 message is because your isp in having trouble. 

With cable internet it can look like your internet connection is fine but the actual connection is not receiving any data. 

If a the error 404 continues then you may need to call your cable provider or isp. 

Other things to check are your network connections.  Make sure everything is plugged in properly and check to make sure a wire didn’t become lose somehow. 

You can also reboot everything.  If you have a cable internet connection and you use a router. 

You will need to reboot your router and cable modem.  Many times you have to reboot both if you are having error 404 problems.

Another problem that can cause an error 404 message is a virus.  Make sure to update and run any anti virus software on your computer.

A browser being hijacked can also cause a 404 message.  If that is the case you will need to run Spyware software to check and make sure your browser is ok. 

If you run into the problem where spyware software sees a problem but cannot remove the bad program.  You may want to search some virus help forums for the error 404 message. 

Here you can post questions and they will also ask you to post log files from programs they recommend.

You can find these forums from doing a Google search.  Just type in spyware forums and search the results.

So as you can see an error 404 message can be from a few things.  Just remember to take one thing at a time and do not get frustrated.
